Debit and Credit Card Security (2024)

Debit and Credit Card Monitoring

MidFirst Bank uses a series of risk-monitoring tools to help fight debit and credit card fraud. We assess the risk potential of each debit and credit card transaction before it is approved. Certain transactions, such as risky foreign transactions, foreign internet transactions and domestic transactions outside of MidFirst Bank's market area, could be declined based on the likelihood of fraud. You can also set up real-time card alerts through the Card Controls function on your MidFirst Bank Mobile App.

Fraud Text Alerts

MidFirst adds another layer of security to your credit and debit cards with Fraud Text Alerts, a simple two-way text communication that helps identify and stop fraud more quickly. Click here for more details.

Let Us Know When You Are Traveling

If you are traveling, either domestically or internationally, you can use the Card Controls function on your MidFirst Bank Mobile App which allows you the ability to set up regions when traveling with your card. Once the region is established, the card can immediately be used within the defined area without having to call and complete a travel notification. If you do not use the MidFirst Bank Mobile App and are planning to travel, please call 888.MIDFIRST (888.643.3477) for debit cards, and 866.762.0492 for credit cards within 30 days of your departure date.

Debit and Credit Card Security Tips

MidFirst Bank is dedicated to helping you protect your financial information. Below are security tips pertaining to your debit and credit card that can aid in avoiding fraud and identity theft.

  • Keep your debit and credit cards in a safe place and give them the same consideration you would cash or checks
  • If you receive a replacement debit or credit card, be sure to destroy your old card
  • Sign the back of your debit or credit card with permanent ink
  • Unless you initiated the phone call, never provide your card number over the phone
  • Do not include your debit or credit card number in an email
  • Use only secure websites — indicated by a lock symbol in the address bar next to the URL — when shopping online
  • Utilize Verified by Visa® for an additional layer of security when shopping online
  • Always log off from a website and close your browser after making a debit or credit card purchase
  • Keep transaction receipts in a safe place or destroy them
  • Select a unique PIN that is not connected to your everyday activities or life, such as birthdays or anniversaries
  • Memorize your PIN and never share it with anyone
  • Change your PIN regularly, preferably every six months
  • Do not write your PIN on your debit or credit card
  • Verify transactions on your account statement and inform us immediately if you find discrepancies
  • Sign up for Debit Card Alerts or Credit Card Alerts through online banking

Skimming

Skimming is a popular method for criminals to steal your debit card data from the magnetic strip on the back of your card. Skimming devices are typically smaller than a deck of cards and attached in close proximity to an ATM or automated fuel dispenser card reader. When using ATMs and automated fuel dispensers, be aware of any add-on device that may look like it is not a factory-installed card reader.

What to Do If You Are a Victim of Fraud or Identity Theft

If your MidFirst Bank debit or credit card has any unauthorized activity, contact us immediately at 888.MIDFIRST (888.643.3477) for debit cards or 866.762.0492 for credit cards. You can also use the Card Controls function on your MidFirst Bank Mobile App to immediately disable the use of your card.

You may also contact the fraud departments of the three major credit bureaus listed below and request that a fraud alert be placed on your file in order to notify them of potentially fraudulent activity.
