HKG-CDG-AMS-GLA: CDG-AMS Leg Changed
I got a notification from AF/KLM to advise that the AMS-CDG leg of my HKG-CDG-AMS-GLA booking had been cancelled and I had been booked onto the next flight. Manage My Booking gave me the option to change flight but only to 1 of the Air France operated flights between AMS-CDG, so I confirmed the change to the flight I was rebooked onto.
I have just noticed that there was a KLM flight to AMS that left 25 mins before my originally scheduled flight that is down to be operated by their new A321 Neo.
If I phone AF/KLM will they change me onto the earlier flight on the new A321 Neo?

You can try, but since you already accepted a rebooking, they're not going to want to change it again.
I don't even think KLM has taken delivery of an A321N yet.

Unlikely at this stage, if your ticket conditions do not allow voluntary changes.
Unless the flight is imminent, it's rarely advisable to immediately confirm any change. Confirming means you're happy with the change (so don't confirm if you want/hope to get something better).
In fact, it's best to hang on as long as possible because keeping the cancellation hanging over you gives you far more flexibility - which gives you bargaining power and means you can call up to investigate other options and potentially haggle - but once you've confirmed, that's it. You're back to the original rigid/restrictive rules of the ticket. You've brought to an unnecessarily swift end the period of time where you would have been able to leverage the cancellation into some other different ticket than the one that was proposed (and which you accepted and confirmed).
(I'm assuming you're not on a flexible ticket, because then you could call up and change as you wish)

Thanks for the advice. My booking classes are Y for the short haul legs and A for the long haul.

Perhaps, but AF/KLM are both known for swaps of appareils. Lot of people buy W and are still getting swapped to Y due to changes.
