I blame Tony Blair....Why do so many people answer a question with the word "LOOK"......?Tony Blair seemed to me to be the first, but why has it caught on? If I've asked a question, I'm interested to hear what the other person says, without "look".....I don't need to look, I'm interested in what you are about to tell me.

Media training!! Another example of our slow decline from authenticity. No longer be yourself but, instead be a version of some other self that fits into the narrow parameters of the same someone's version of acceptability! And Nigel, what about the yoofs or today who do the same in a different way. No 'th' sound, that weird ahh sound for a and the word like! Like go and wash your mouth out and like learn to speak proper like! Ffs!

I call it a transitional / defensive word. When you start with "Look" the person is either transitioning and it's their way of mentally getting into the zone, or in this case, it could be defensive "Look" is kind of making it a 3rd party thing, "Look, I messed up" almost like it is something that cannot be helped and is just what it is.Unfortunately, it is too far used as a "oh well put up and shut up" context and a lazy word to stop being questioned about something IMHO

As a video producer I wish the look, listen and so’s were knocked out of people by their media trainers, as I end up having to edit them out and it never quite works.

Look, Listen, use of first name followed by a short pause. These are prompts to the individual that what your about to say is very important and they are more likely to be attentive and give a calm and well measured response

5 Benefits of Rejection by Brigette Hyacinth1.It gets you fired up as it gives you something to prove– Harrison Ford: In his first film, Ford was told by the movie execs that he simply didn’t have what it takes to be a star. It added fire to the fuel as it gave him something to prove.2.It makes you more creative –In 1919, Walt Disney was fired from the Kansas City Star. According to his editor, he “lacked imagination and had no good ideas.” You will find new ways to market yourself and your product.3.It makes you work harder –Michael Jordan – “I think that not making the Varsity team drove me to really work at my game, and also taught me that if you set goals, and work hard to achieve them—the hard work can pay off.”4.It develops your character–Your response to rejection shows how you respond when things don’t go my way. Are you able to let go or do you become resentful? You also will be more supportive to others facing similar struggles.5.It builds strength–Today, Abraham Lincoln is remembered as one of the greatest leaders. However, rejection followed him in much of his early life. It did however better prepare him to handle ridicule in the public eye.“Rejection is the sand in the oyster, the irritant that ultimately produces the pearl.” ~Burke WilkinsonRemember, although the road may seem long and winding there is aprize waiting at the finish line for youand all those who rejected you, will have to join in applauding you. Never give up, for you just may be one step away from achieving your dream.

Absolutely inspiring post, Michael! David Beckham's unwavering commitment to training alone is a powerful reminder that success is born from resilience and a never-give-up attitude. His story, as highlighted in the Netflix documentary "What makes David run?" demonstrates the importance of showing up, especially during the toughest times. In our own pursuits, whether it's in our careers or chasing our dreams, let's channel that Beckham spirit. Let's keep showing up, focused on our goals, even when it feels like we're alone in our journey. Remember, determination paves the path to success, and this is a lesson we can all carry with us, no matter the obstacles we encounter. 🚀 #Belkins #Determination #Success

Charlie Munger Tribute Post 8: On the eighth day of Charlie Munger, he taught me this:“I never allow myself to have an opinion on anything that I don’t know the other side’s argument better than they do.”This quote reveals Munger’s intellectual honesty and curiosity. He respects the complexity and diversity of reality, and he acknowledges that there are always multiple perspectives and arguments on any issue. He advises us to be open-minded and humble, and to seek to understand the other side’s point of view before forming our own. He counsels us to avoid confirmation bias and groupthink, and to challenge our own assumptions and beliefs. He assures us that by being curious and honest, we will improve our thinking and decision-making skills.

Do traits like: wise, gentle, kind, knowledgeable, caring, patient, empathetic etc. come to your mind when you see this star actor who portrayed the role of the Hogwarts headmaster, Professor Albus Dumbledore in 6 out of the 8 Harry Potter Movies?Well what kind of keywords would you like to leave behind when you pass-away one day? Or more to the point, what keywords are likely to be remembered and by how many, the way you conduct as a leader?Take a health-check, you cannot evade death, but you can leave behind a warmer image and a living legacy.#whatsyourlegacy?

One of the best principles Steven Covey championed is what he called the “Circle of Influence” versus the “Circle of Concern.”He drew two concentric circles and labeled the inner circle the circle of influence. He said there are always more things in our circle of concern than in our circle of influence. But the best part of the principle is this: the more we focus on things in our circle of concern, the smaller our circle of influence gets. The more we focus on our circle of influence, the more it grows.Which circle does your team focus on? Drive attention on what your have the ability to influence, and you’ll get more done. Here’s a great article highlighting these two circles and how to focus on the right things:https://lnkd.in/g8SJ3qUC

Whether you are facilitating change, influencing business or achieving your personal goals, there is one trait we can all do with more of - Persistence. We have heard people say "success happens overnight" , I giggle to myself.... Did you know David Beckham at an early age loved football, he practiced everyday in the backyard - there is no denying he had bucket loads of talent. Beckham was also persistent. When you come up against a road block, think of other ways to solve the problem. Henry Ford's first two car companies were a failure, Jerry Seinfeld was booed off stage in his first stand up comedy routine. How do you solve problems in your organisation?#persistence #determination

3 "mental shifts" that will transform your management:1. Nobody is ever completely right or wrong. Stop looking for black/white when things are grey.2. People are trying their best. Believe it or not, everyone is just doing the best they can. Including you.3. Communicate for who's receiving it, not who's giving it (you). When you say things how it makes sense to you, it'll probably miss for others. You’re not a bad leaderYou’re just looking at things the wrong way

So is it a small trumpet? For those of you who know me I play the cornet (and flugelhorn but that's another story!). I quite often get asked if it is a small trumpet. The answer is, "No it is not a small trumpet!" It has the same length of piping as a trumpet but it has more bends and the shape of the tube is slightly different, which gives it a warmer sound than the trumpet and the pitch is the same. (Bb for those who want more facts) There that has cleared that up!So I'm pretty good on the cornet. I can play quite a few fast notes and it even can sound rather lovely. I play in a couple of brass bands and will be seen playing at the Whit Friday Marches in a couple of weeks time. What I am not good at is blowing my own trumpet. I often struggle to say that I am good at anything. So it is such a pleasure when I finally girded myself up to ask for a testimonial and I received this. It has really made my day!Karen Cureton Chief Socialite, Joanna Lott ACC, ________________________________________________________I am Annette Cairns, a pretty good cornet player and a passionate supporter of growing people's potential through one to one coaching allied to a leadership programme, or by itself.I am all about working with people to help them understand their impact and how to maximise that.Fancy a cuppa to talk about it a little more? What mistake does Taylor Swift, Tom Brady and you have in common?1. we worrying what other people think of us2. we let this stop us from doing things we really want to doThe Truth is: Most people don’t really care or think about you at all. It's called the spotlight effect and it's 100% Lying to you.In 2024 you need to make it a priority to dim the spotlight As you can see the best of the best have spot light effect and it's crippling for them. The difference between Taylor and you? She does it anyway. Insecurity and all.
