Raspberry Jam Puff Pastry Straws! Delicious sweet treats that the kids will love and are so easy to make!
Perfect Snack!
Shop bought snacks can be expensive. Especially if you have more than one child in the family and even more so during the school holidays when the kids seem to be constantly asking for snacks!
So where possible I like to try and make some of my own homemade snacks to cut down on those additional costs!
These crispy pastry twists honestly make such a great snack for the kids (or indeed adults with a cup of coffee or tea!).
And the best part is that they are ready in just 15 minutes! Serve them up with some chopped fruit or just on their own.
Why You Will Love My Jam Straws Recipe!
Firstly they are honestly really simple to make!
Secondly, you only need three ingredients – a puff pastry sheet, jam and some brown sugar.
And no…. I don’t make my own puff pastry as I genuinely just don’t have time for that! Shop bought sheets of puff pastry are perfect so why mess with that?!
Lastly, they can be batch made ahead of time and frozen so you’ve always got a stash ready to pop into the oven.
See instructions for making these in advance in the Storage Instructions Section below.
Different Flavours
I’ve used raspberry jam in my recipe, but use whatever jam you already have at home or one that you really like! You could try:
- strawberry jam
- blackcurrant jam
- fig jam
Or for a more grown up take on these twists, you could try a chilli jam or a chutney style jam!
Storage Instructions
These jam puff pastry twists or straws are delicious after they’ve cooled a little bit once coming out of the oven (the jam will be super hot when they first come out of the oven), but they can also be stored for up to two days in a sealed airtight container.
You could also make these up in advance ready to go into the oven individually so you have some on hand when you need them.
Once you have completed method step 4 in the recipe card below, place the straws onto a plate or baking tray and place in the freezer until they are hard.
Then transfer into a freezer bag or airtight container where they will keep in the freezer for up to 2 months.
They can be cooked straight from frozen but you will need to add a few extra minutes to the cook time if cooking from frozen.

Description
Raspberry Jam Straws! A delicious sweet treat that the kids will love and are so easy to make!
Ingredients
- 1 sheet of puff pastry
- 2 tbsp raspberry jam
- ½ tbsp brown sugar
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 200c / 400f and line two baking trays with parchment paper.
- Unroll the pastry and using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut it in half width ways so that you have two equal sized rectangles.
- Spoon the jam onto one half and spread it all over the pastry. Place the other rectangle of pastry on top and press down.
- Cut the pastry widthways into strips of about ½ inch thick (or about a thumb width). Twist each strip, cut in half and place on the baking tray. Sprinkle each straw with a little brown sugar.
- When all of the pastry strips are ready, bake in the oven for 10 minutes, turning half way.
- Allow to cool just for a couple of minutes before serving as the jam will be super hot!
