Program Details 项目简介
The International Student Program Immersive Research Experience, organized by The Henry Samueli School of Engineering (HSSoE), is a 10-week (summer) or a 15-week (spring) research training program that provides a comprehensive engineering experience to its participants. We are targeting students who are interested in applying to the University of California, Irvine for graduate school, Master degrees or Ph.D. degrees. Each student will select and work on a specific research project under the supervision of a faculty mentor from The Henry Samueli School of Engineering, and deliver a final presentation to conclude the research project. Students will participate in a series of professional development seminars and visit research and technology centers on campus to develop an international perspective on engineering. In addition, consultation for graduate applications to UC Irvine will be arranged as well. Six academic units will be awarded upon completion of the program through UCI Summer Session.
UC Irvine is located in the heart of sunny Southern California, just minutes away from the Pacific Ocean. The campus is also a short drive from mountain resorts, the desert, sports venues, concert halls, and several exciting theme parks. Participants will enjoy several fun excursions to get the most out of their Southern California experience.
This program is designed to help students fully develop the knowledge and skills that will propel them into future graduate studies. As a result of their research experience, students will develop a competitive edge in applying for Master’s and Ph.D. programs at UC Irvine or other top national graduate programs.

The fee of the program includes the following:
- Health insurance for the duration of the program
- Program activities and administration
- Research mentoring and project-related expenses
- I-20 or DS2019 issuance fee for F1 visa
- Transferable academic course credit fee (2 units of independent research course)

- Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- Your Top Five (5) Faculty Choices – Online Application (see below). If no faculty matches your interest, please indicate your preferred professor whose research area best aligns with your interest. You can learn about each faculty member’s research area by referring to the Samueli School of Engineering website.
- Two References – Online Application (see below). Please send the contact information (name in Chinese, email and phone number) of two professors who can recommend you to our program. We will contact them regarding your application.
- You can still apply to the program even if you are not taking your TOEFL test until after the application deadline. Please do make sure to indicate the expected date that you will be taking the test on your application and EMAIL us your official TOEFL transcript as soon as it becomes available to you.
- You may be exempt from providing a TOEFL or IELTS transcript if you are an undergraduate student at a U.S. institution.
- Please note that you DO NOT need to turn in a physical letter of recommendation. Your references will NOT receive a link to submit any letters. Please ONLY provide their contact information.
- Please only submit ONE application. Do not submit duplicate applications.
